If you recieve the problem:
mount to NFS server ‘SERVER’ failed: server is down.Â
When mounting a NFS exported folder, the obvious thing to check is where portmap is bound to…
Try running dpkg-reconfigure portmap
If make sure that the option saying “bind portmap to local intefaces” is set to no.
It’s a muppet mistake for me to make; but no-where on google mentioned to check it.
There seems to be a bug in the process somewhere that prevents SSH from being upgraded properly, so when you run apt-get dist-upgrade, ssh is removed, and you lose your server.
The solution is simple, after running dist-upgrade, and BEFORE disconnecting from SSH, run:
dpkg -i –force-all /var/cache/apt/archives/openssh*
This forces ssh to install, and fixes your problems.
