    “ReadKey.c:2090: error: invalid type argument of âunary *â”

    As you said, you can grab the libraries via apt, I wanted the DBD mysql package so I did:

    # apt-get install libdbd-mysql-perl

    …and my Perl scripts could talk to mysql.
