Thoughts on spam…

I have recently configured up a new spam filtering server for my email. It seems pretty effective.

It also produces some interesting, and somewhat scary, statistics. Consider this graph below:

Spam Chart

Have a look at those numbers. It means that:

  • 31.6% of mail is from invalid senders
  • 31.0% is to invalid recipients

That only leaves 37.4% of email that could possibly be legitimate!

It doesn’t get much better really. Out of all the mail, a pathetic 9.2% is actually legitimate mail.

A recent survey by the Institute of Directors found out that under 60% of their members considered spam to be a problem.

If you are receiving large amounts of spam, there is a solution. Please take a moment and consider Outlook Anywhere, a Hosted Microsoft Exchange offering by Berkeley IT Ltd. They are Microsoft Gold Partners and have extensive experience in providing managed email solutions.
