Zen Internet :-(

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Dear Andy

You will need to power on the router, however to prevent the environment from being contaminated by the radioactive green lights you will need to purchase some duct tape from any hardware store. The tape then needs carefully placing over the lights, being careful not to get cat hairs stuck to the tape and not to cover any cooling vents.

For additional effectiveness you will need to soak the duct tape overnight in custard. This should allow the tape to be effective for at least 4 moon cycles. Please email back if you have any further queries.

It’s a pity that that wasn’t the response I got from Zen internet when I asked:

 Hi there,

I have just turned my router off to save power (the little thing had flashing lights on it so must have been bad for the environment) but I now can’t get onto the internet!

Can you please let me know what I can do?

Thanks,

Andy

MP MAN F400 MP3 Player

MP Man F400

It transpires that commuting almost 45 minutes every day is very dull without music.

I picked up a MP MAN F400 2GB MP3 player (wow, that’s a lot of caps) for £12.99 from HMV at the Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepherds Bush.

For a cheap MP3 player, it works fairly well. The music quality is acceptable (through the insanely cheap headphones that came with it, which I do intend to replace), and it rather strangely interfaces with your PC via the 3.5mm audio port to USB.

It does the job as an alright MP3 player, so no complaints. A word of warning, however, is that it gets rather hot when charging.

HE PSU for HP DL140 G3

Since I keep forgetting the model number of the HE PSU that you can put in a HP DL140 G3 to half the power consumption, I suppose I can list it here:

Happy new 2009.

Incidentally, Smoked Trout goes very well with the usual Champagne and scrambled eggs!
