Post Frequency

I decided to graph my frequency of posts. How did I manage 52 posts in a month?

No more caffeine

Friday, February 6th, 2009

So, due to a bet, I’ve given up caffeine.

This may not seem likc such a big challenge, but cutting down from ~1000mg of caffeine per day to nothing has been surprisingly hard.

On a typical day, I would probably consume:

  • 3 triple espressos
  • 1 can of Red Bull
  • Half a bottle of Tesco Kick
  • Various amounts of Coke (up to 2 litres)

The comedown has been fairly grim, with the headaches on the second day being untreatable by codeine!

It has been over 5 days now since I’ve had any caffeine (including Coke), and I still find it hard going into shops and not getting a can of Red Bull. I shall soldier on.

Add a printer on the command line using Windows XP

Specifically for the Toshiba e-STUDIO 451c colour photocopier/scanner/printer:

rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /b “Toshiba451c” /x /n “Toshiba451c” /if /f “\\myfileserver\drivers\Toshiba451c\eS4dc2.inf” /l “\\myfileserver\drivers\Toshiba451c” /r “\\myprintserver\Toshiba451c” /m “TOSHIBA e-STUDIO451cSeriesPCL5c”

Clearly this will work for any other printer, assuming that you have the drivers in the right place!

Note that the /l parameter must not have a trailing /. This causes it to break.

London Chaos Index

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 has a really cool idea – it monitors various modes of transport in and around London to produce an index based on how late services are running.

They also have a graph that shows the last 24 hours of data, but I feel that this isn’t long enough, so I’ve created a graph that will show “for all time” after Monday 2nd Feburary 2009 (the great snow!).
